SwinSID – a 16 bit Stereo Hardware Sound Module
Yo Sid'z ! We are back from the holidays and obviously the weirdest thing that happened to the Commodore 64 Music Universe is the discovery of this project from Poland.
Yes, you're seeing right, It's a hardware replacement for the original Commodore 64 SID chip. It might be that it doesn't boast all the features I would desire of such an attempt to hack the SID but hey.. we can't complain ! Good work Mr.Swinkels. Keep it on!
ok.... read all about the SwinSID and decide yourself...
I'm actually a bit more fond of things like this...

Well, it looks like it might have lost some of the character of the original, but maybe he'll make another revision. Nice link on that second SID chip.

Gotta agree. It just doesn't sound "right". I'd love to hear a SID replacement with a sound more like the original...something like Jeri's MegaSID or whatever she calls it, but on a board to plug in a real breadbox. If this guy does a V2 of this, I'd be interested to see what he comes up with. It's always nice to see people doing projects like this to plug into real Commodore hardware.
